DEVANTE LEKENDRICK
Born to a 16 year old mother;
Devante was not given a silver spoon. He began working at the age of 12 and knew early on what he wanted to be. Growing up in public housing and section 8; his imagination kept him entertained as he entertained others around him who called him a "character"
Coming from a mixed family background; Devante had an unconventional upbringing growing up between different households; His roots began in Michigan between the areas of Detroit, Flint, and the Saginaw-Bay. Later New York City, Charlotte, NC, and Louisville, KY, before landing in Atlanta, Georgia.
From the age of 7, Devante was always artistically inclined. He loved music, acting, writing, dancing, and all forms of art. He formed a music group with 2 of his cousins during childhood and made music well into their teenage years where they all wrote, sang, rapped, and danced which ignited his early dream of wanting to become a choreographer and performer. He acted in theater and loved playing different characters he saw on
TV.
He would also create music videos, films, and commercials with his friends, cousins & siblings as a hobby while his mother worked late nights. He then realized he was also skillful in writing, photography, videography, and editing in Windows Movie Maker. From then on he wanted to pursue art as a career.
Devante is of African, Native American, Mexican, and French descent with creole roots and identifies as a Black Man. Raised predominantly with his Black and Mexican family he started dancing Hip Hop very young and also enjoyed dancing Cumbia. He was also trained in Argentine Tango while away in college.
Devante strongly values God, love, truth, freedom, family, culture, growth, individuality, art, and diversity as he desires to evolve as not only an artist but a human being.
CAREER
Devante possesses a B.A. in Psychology from The Illustrious H.B.C.U. Johnson C, Smith University in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Devante caught the modeling bug in his late teen years being approached while sitting in Bryant Park in Manhattan. He began seeking training and representation as a model and actor. A few years later,
he became a Promotional Model working with brands such as BET, FOX SPORTS, TROJAN, TED BAKER, VERIZON, SPRINT, SPOKEHUB, CELSIUS and more. He also walked early runway and ventured into the Film and Television world after moving to Atlanta.
Devante has worked as an Actor and Film Professional in both the Indie and mainstream worlds as a Boom Operator, Producer, Writer, AD, AC, Script Supervisor, and most recently as a Production Assistant (PA) on the hit shows P-VALLEY S2, BMF S2, and Tyler Perry's The Oval S6 as well as 2 Commercials for Fortnite and Sprite (Coca Cola Company)
